The Gen 4 platform will not be restricted to just scooters as the company mentioned “infinite possibilities” at the Sankalp 2025 event.
At the recently concluded Sankalp 2025 event at the Ola Gigafactory in Tamil Nadu, the founder of the company, Bhavish Aggarwal, made many big announcements. Among them was the plan of launching the Gen 4 platform which is currently undergoing development. Usually, the news of a new platform would be limited to the Ola scooter range, as we have seen in the past. However, the company mentioned “infinite possibilities” with the Gen 4 platform and the video played at the event showed the new platform powering an autorickshaw, LCV and even a small car. The video went on to mention “Build to power everything from personal to shared mobility” and when we got in touch with company officials for more details, they mentioned that all the above mentioned concepts are under development, but whether or not Ola Electric will go ahead with production of these individual projects remains to be seen.

The Gen 4 platform will get a new motor and will be powered by the new 4680 Bharat cell. The company did mention that the peak power output of this new motor will be 16 kW and it will be 15 per cent more energy efficient than the Gen 3 platform. The Gen 4 platform will also be lighter and more affordable as the battery cells are being manufactured in-house by Ola at its Gigafactory facility.

The first product will be the Ola S1 scooter range with the updated motor and batteries which will go on sale by the first half of 2026. The Ola autorickshaw is an interesting concept as electric rickshaws are gaining popularity and even legacy brands such as Bajaj Auto and TVS are active in this segment. By utilising a smaller motor compared to its rivals and in-house manufacturing of battery cells, Ola Electric has the potential to disrupt the segment.
The most interesting detail for us was the small electric car showcased in the video. The first silhouette looked like a small family car on similar lines of the Tata Nano and the last car is eerily similar to the MG Comet. A couple of years back Ola had showcased a few electric car concepts and these were supposed to be premium offerings including a sportscar. However, last year the company scrapped its electric car project as it wanted to focus on two-wheelers. This new development also shows the pivot taken by the brand as the new Ola electric car concept is focusing more on mobility and affordability as it’s based on the Gen 4 platform and will not require an exclusive platform.
While all these concepts and future direction are interesting, Ola Electric also needs to address customer grievances as many have filed cases against the company in consumer courts and the company needs to regain consumer trust.
