Toyota's next-generation Fortuner is officially scheduled to make its global debut on December 1, 2026, according to Toyota South Africa. The updated SUV is expected to make its commercial entry into the Indian market in 2027.
While it’ll most likely retain its proven IMV ladder-frame chassis platform and core bodyshell, the new model will incorporate extensive sheet-metal styling revisions and tech enhancements to remain competitive.
Visual updates derived from recent test mules point towards a significantly restyled front fascia featuring a bolder upright grille with vertical elements, slimmer LED headlight sections, a raised bonnet, and flared wheel arches complemented by integrated side steps.
At the rear, the new Fortuner is anticipated to receive a redesigned tailgate accompanied by a connected LED light bar and updated tail-lamp graphics while preserving its tall, commanding proportions.
Inside, the cabin will undergo a major overhaul inspired by the latest Toyota Hilux. Key interior upgrades could include a significantly larger central touchscreen infotainment system supporting wireless smartphone connectivity, a fully digital instrument cluster, improved dashboard materials, and enhanced seating ergonomics.
Under the bonnet, Toyota is expected to retain its trusted 2.8-litre turbocharged diesel engine producing 201 bhp and up to 500 Nm of torque, paired with manual and automatic transmission options along with a dedicated 4x4 drivetrain. The new model could also retain the mild-hybrid tech which was introduced on the current model last year.
