The new Nissan Terrano PHEV Concept is visually a stark departure from the older Terrano.
Nissan is planning to resurrect the Terrano nameplate. The Japanese carmaker has unveiled a concept of the new-gen Terrano at the ongoing Beijing Motor Show 2026. However, we doubt this version of the Terrano has anything to do with the older Terrano that was on sale in India from 2013 to 2020 and was based on the first-gen Duster.
The production version of the Terrano PHEV Concept is expected to make its debut in China sometime next year. The new Terrano is part of Nissan’s expansion plan of New Energy Vehicles (NEV) portfolio in China.
The Nissan Terrano PHEV Concept is a sharp departure from the older Terrano in terms of design. The new model gets a very rugged and boxy styling that appears to take inspiration from the Land Rover Defender. At the front, it features a rectangular segmented LED headlamp setup, widely spaced Nissan lettering, a muscular bumper, fender-mounted driving lights, and a bonnet scoop.

From the side, the Terrano Concept stands out with a large roof rack equipped with driving lights, a right-side-mounted ladder, a kinked window line, bold squared-off body cladding, and chunky off-road tyres. At the rear, it features a tailgate-mounted spare wheel supported by a large beam, four compact LED taillamps, and a muscular bumper.

Nissan hasn’t revealed anything about the Terrano PHEV Concept yet but it is expected to share its platform with the Frontier Pro PHEV, developed in partnership with Chinese state-owned automaker Dongfeng. TThis points to a plug-in hybrid powertrain that pairs a 1.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor, producing a combined output of around 424 bhp and 800 Nm of torque.

Nissan is highly unlikely to bring the Terrano PHEV to India. However, Nissan has confirmed that the production-spec Terrano PHEV will not be exclusive to China and will be launched in select global markets. Besides, Nissan is focusing on bringing a new C-segment SUV in India named Tekton, based on the new Renault Duster, and a seven-seat SUV based on the same in the coming few months.
