Ola Electric’s Gen 3 scooters gain PLI certification, which will boost affordability and innovation. This will also offer consumers better value.
In a major boost to India’s electric vehicle (EV) landscape, Ola Electric has announced that its Gen 3 scooter portfolio has received coveted Production Linked Incentive (PLI) certification from the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), under the Ministry of Heavy Industries.
This marks a decisive stride in making Ola’s scooters not only more affordable but also positions the company as a trailblazer in the highly competitive two-wheeler EV segment.
The PLI scheme, designed to strengthen manufacturing and drive innovation in India’s auto sector, rewards certified automakers with incentives between 13% and 18% of their sales value until 2028.
For end consumers, this translates into potentially lower prices, improved product features, and access to cutting-edge technology, as manufacturers like Ola Electric reinvest incentive gains into research, scale, and customer experience.
With the PLI certification now extending to Ola’s new Gen 3 scooters—spanning the S1 Pro 3 kWh, S1 Pro 4 kWh, S1 Pro+ 4 kWh, S1 X 2 kWh, S1 X 3 kWh, S1 X 4 kWh, and S1 X+ 4 kWh—the company consolidates its dominance in India’s pure-play EV market.
Unlike most rivals, Ola’s vertical integration strategy, including localizing the battery cell manufacturing (highlighted by the new 4680 Bharat Cell), means further price stability and swift product upgrades for Indian buyers.
In contrast, major competitors like Ather Energy and TVS Motor Company are still in the process of enhancing their localization efforts and expanding their portfolio to match Ola’s scale and breadth.
While Ather and TVS have also sought PLI incentives, Ola’s swift certification for both Gen 2 and Gen 3 product lines underscores its operational agility and manufacturing prowess.
Yes, Ola Electric’s Gen 2 scooter range had previously received PLI certification. This new achievement extends eligibility to the Gen 3 scooters as well—covering models that make up the majority of the brand’s current sales—setting the stage for improved profitability starting Q2 FY26.
For consumers, this could mean greater value, as the company channels efficiency gains into better pricing and expanded after-sales service.
At its annual ‘Sankalp’ event, Ola Electric also unveiled new high-range scooters powered by the locally developed battery and teased aggressive pricing for upcoming models like the S1 Pro Sport and Roadster X+.
With over 4,000 experience centres nationwide, direct-to-customer distribution, and a growing portfolio that leads on innovation and affordability, Ola Electric stands out as a key force driving India’s EV revolution.
Consumer Takeaway For Indian scooter buyers, Ola’s PLI certification signals more choice and better value in the fast-evolving electric two-wheeler space. As rivals race to catch up, the real winner may well be the Indian EV consumer, enjoying greater access to advanced technology and best-in-class products.
