Ola Electric has become the first Indian company to publish 205 patents related to EVs and EV technologies. The Bengaluru-based EV company has filed these patents in 2022-23 and their publication comes weeks before as the brand is working on raising ₹5,500 crore by issuing new shares in its proposed IPO.
Of the ₹5,500 crores that Ola Electric is aiming to receive, the company plans to utilise ₹1,600 crores for research and development. So, out of the 205 patents filed, 92 are about battery technology, 27 are software-related, 19 patents pertain to vehicle safety and security segment as well as controller segment, and 12 are in the motor and transmission segment. The remaining 36 are in the vehicle body components, AI, and other related tech.

As per the Intellectual Property of India, Ola has now surpassed its key competitors. It is ahead of companies like TVS which is in the second spot with 156 patents published, followed by Suzuki with 78 published patents, Honda with 77 published patents, and even four-wheeler maker BYD which has 58 patents published.
