The BOSS sale reduced the prices of Ola scooters massively and according to the ARAI subsidy on Ola scooters could be impacted.
Ola Electric had come under the scanner of the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) for not informing the agency before announcing the BOSS sale. As part of the Ola sale, customers could buy the S1X 2 kWh model for just ₹49,999, whereas the Ola S1 series was offered with a discount of up to ₹25,000. ARAI raised that the above price revision could impact the subsidy eligibility of the Ola S1 scooters under the new PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) scheme.

In response, Ola Electric released the following statement, “As part of our response, we have enclosed an invoice raised on 6 October 2024, which evidenced the fact that a discount of Rs 5,000 was given to customers. Furthermore, as part of our response, we have enclosed a screenshot of the app where it is specifically mentioned that we have not changed the price of Ola S1 X 2KWh and the discount of Rs 25,000 was extended only for very limited inventory.”

From the above statement it’s clear that Ola is maintaining a stand that the BOSS sales was a limited period festive discount scheme and the price of its electric scooters haven’t been revised. Whether ARAI officials will be content with the above explanation remains to be seen. The BOSS sale from Ola seemed like a desperate attempt by the company to push sales as it has been losing market share and its stock prices were tumbling too.
