OnePlus 13 May Come With Apple-Like MagSafe Charging

Magnetic wireless charging Qi2 enhances the wireless charging experience with improved functionality and versatility. However, Android smartphones have been slow to adopt this technology, but the OnePlus 13 may become one of the first Android devices to embrace this charging technology.

Earlier predictions suggested that Qi2 adoption in devices would begin in late 2024, allowing sufficient time for manufacturers to incorporate the finalised standard into new device designs. The timing of the OnePlus 13's launch -- scheduled for this month in China, with a subsequent global release -- corresponds with this timeline.

Louis Lee, OnePlus China president, recently shared information on Weibo, as spotted by GizmoChina. In a screenshot of messages, he referenced a "magnetic function" and playfully asked if this disclosure was sufficient. While this hints at possible Qi2 or MagSafe-like charging capabilities for the OnePlus 13, it falls short of official confirmation. Read our review of OnePlus 12R here

What Is Qi2 Charging

The Qi2 standard, which incorporates magnetic charging capabilities, was introduced in 2023. iPhones with MagSafe are already compatible with this standard due to the technologies' similarities. While Qi2 accessories are readily available, Android adoption remains limited, with only the mid-range HMD Skyline currently supporting it. 

Despite the hype, even the Google Pixel 9 series launched without Qi2 support, possibly due to its early release timeline. However, as we approach 2025, OnePlus appears ready to implement this technology.

Apart from the likely magnetic charging capabilities, the OnePlus 13 is anticipated to feature a large battery capacity, Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor, and refreshed design elements.
