OnePlus is poised to disrupt Samsung's dominance with its forthcoming OnePlus Open foldable.

It's clear that foldable smartphones are having their moment, emerging in various forms from multiple manufacturers. This burgeoning market could soon pose a challenge to Samsung, much like the competition it faces in the standard smartphone sector from Chinese brands. OnePlus is poised to disrupt Samsung's dominance with its forthcoming OnePlus Open foldable.

The company has even flown select members of the Indian media to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands for an exclusive preview. Now, actress Anushka Sharma, who is also the wife of former Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli, has revealed the device ahead of the Cricket World Cup taking place in India.

OnePlus appears to have enlisted Anushka Sharma for the launch of the OnePlus Open. The actress has inadvertently—or perhaps intentionally—shown off the device in two separate videos captured by the paparazzi.

This seems like a calculated leak, as Sharma deliberately displays the phone's rear, featuring a prominent circular camera island. The OnePlus Open is rumoured to have a camera system akin to the OnePlus 11, launched six months ago. This includes a 50-megapixel primary camera, a 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and a 32-megapixel rear camera, all fine-tuned by Hasselblad for superior image quality.

In another video, Sharma is seen casually unfolding the phone, again focusing on its backside. The authenticity of this "leak" is questionable, as Sharma was seen using an iPhone 14 Pro or Pro Max in a burgundy case in her recent Instagram posts for Puma India. This suggests that her primary device is likely an iPhone, a common preference among celebrities.

The OnePlus Open is said to feature a 7.8-inch AMOLED foldable display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Initially, OnePlus sourced its screens from Chinese supplier BOE, but due to yield issues, it switched back to Samsung, delaying the launch from August to October.

The external screen measures 6.3 inches and, much like the Oppo Find N2 Fold, is designed to be wider for ergonomic daily use. However, both the internal and external screens are larger than those on the Oppo device.

Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and offering up to 16GB of RAM, the OnePlus Open is shaping up to be one of the most potent foldable phones on the market. It is also expected to be competitively priced, potentially shaking up the Galaxy Z Fold series' market dominance.
