OnePlus Open incorporates hinge technology developed by Oppo.
In a preview shared by tech commentator Michael Fisher, better known as Mr Mobile, key design elements of the forthcoming OnePlus Open were unveiled just days before its Indian launch. OnePlus invited Fisher to its Shenzhen headquarters, where he was given access to the testing facility where the foldable phone underwent rigorous stress tests. The video showcases a front screen virtually free of a crease, along with an advanced hinge mechanism.
Though Fisher was restricted from revealing the phone in its entirety, he did share a glimpse of the device's front. The video paid particular attention to the hinge, a critical component in this passport-style foldable device. OnePlus has invested significant effort into enhancing the durability and reducing the crease on the internal screen.
Notably, the OnePlus Open incorporates hinge technology developed by Oppo, OnePlus's parent company, for their Find N model. OnePlus has refined the design, slimming down the component count from 100 to 69 parts, thereby reducing the hinge weight to just 13 grams.
The company opted for a mix of titanium and aluminium for the hinge and incorporated carbon fibre into the internal frame, significantly reducing the overall weight. Rigorous drop tests have been conducted, as well as twist and bend assessments. Although there is no official word on the IP resistance rating, the video does suggest the device could handle IPX2 and IPX4 certification. IPX4 would imply that its water and dust resistance lags behind the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5.
There's yet no information on the rear camera specifications, but unofficial renders depict a circular camera island featuring a triple-camera setup. This is similar to the one found on the OnePlus 11 and includes Hasselblad branding. Rumours suggest the presence of twin 48-megapixel rear cameras, accompanied by a 64-megapixel telephoto lens. The device is also rumoured to feature dual selfie cameras—a 32-megapixel and a 20-megapixel camera, respectively.
