The Gemini Ultra model will first debut on OnePlus and OPPO devices
OPPO and OnePlus have revealed that their upcoming smartphones will be the first to feature Google's most advanced large language model, Gemini Ultra. The announcement, made at Google's ongoing Cloud Next conference in Las Vegas, also outlined the companies' plans to introduce AI-based experiences on their devices. The integration of Gemini Ultra is expected to roll out later in 2024.
This development builds upon OPPO and OnePlus' existing achievements in China, where they have already launched Generative AI features on their flagship devices, the Oppo Find X7 and OnePlus 12. The integration of Gemini Ultra and Google Cloud AI into smartphones marks a significant step forward in bringing the benefits of AI to users worldwide.
Nicole Zhang, General Manager of AI product at OPPO and OnePlus, expressed her enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, "Generative AI is a revolutionary technology and I believe OPPO and OnePlus are perfectly positioned to bring the benefits of AI to users all around the world."
Zhang further emphasised the companies' commitment to expanding the scope of mobile AI innovations by forming alliances with other industry pioneers to deliver a wide range of AI experiences.
In a related development, OnePlus has recently announced an AI eraser feature powered by AndesGPT LLM, an in-house large language model developed by OnePlus and OPPO. This feature is set to launch globally in the near future.
Looking ahead, future OnePlus and OPPO models will harness the power of AI to offer users enhanced capabilities, such as summarising news articles and audio content, as well as generating new content for social media platforms.
The integration of Google's Gemini Ultra model and the ongoing development of AI-driven features by OPPO and OnePlus demonstrate the growing importance of artificial intelligence in the smartphone industry. As these technologies continue to evolve, users can expect increasingly sophisticated and personalised experiences from their mobile devices.
