Google launched its highly anticipated Pixel 9 series earlier than usual, unveiling four new smartphones at its Made By Google event. The Pixel 9 lineup includes the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. This marks a significant shift in Google's smartphone strategy, reaching four models and taking the upcoming iPhone 16 lineup head-on. But, what's even more surprising for the Indian market is Google's decision to bring its entire Pixel 9 series lineup along with the Pixel Watch 3 and Pixel Buds Pro 2 to India.
The entire Pixel 9 series is powered by the Tensor G4 SoC and Titan M2 security chip. Google promises enhanced performance and security on the Pixel 9 series. All models are IP68-rated for water and dust resistance and are guaranteed seven years of Android OS updates, security patches, and Pixel feature drops.
The standard Pixel 9 features a 6.3-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and claims up to 2,700 nits peak brightness. Despite its compact size, it packs a 12GB of RAM and a dual rear camera setup. The Pro models up the ante with 16GB of RAM and a triple rear camera system, including a periscope lens for enhanced zoom capabilities.
Google has made significant improvements to the camera systems across the board. The Pixel 9 and its Pro counterparts share the same 50-megapixel primary sensor and 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera. The Pro models add a 48-megapixel telephoto lens, enabling up to 30x Super Res Zoom and 5x optical zoom. The front-facing cameras have also seen upgrades, with the Pro models featuring a 42-megapixel selfie camera.
The Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL feature larger, more advanced displays. The Pro model matches the standard Pixel 9's 6.3-inch size but upgrades to a higher resolution and variable refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz. The Pro XL steps up to a 6.8-inch panel for users who prefer larger screens.
Battery capacities vary across the lineup. The Pixel 9 and 9 Pro feature 4,700mAh batteries, while the Pro XL gets a beefier 5,060mAh cell. All models support 45W wired fast charging and Qi wireless charging.
Perhaps the most exciting addition to the Pixel family is the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. This second-generation foldable device from Google showcases a complete design overhaul, featuring a taller and slimmer profile than its predecessor. With an 8-inch inner display and a 6.3-inch cover screen, both supporting 120Hz refresh rates and up to 2,700 nits brightness, the Pro Fold aims to compete with the best in the foldable market.
The Pro Fold's camera system is equally impressive, with a 48-megapixel primary sensor, 10.5-megapixel ultra-wide, and 10.8-megapixel telephoto lens on the rear. It also includes two 10-megapixel selfie cameras, one on the cover display and another on the inner screen.
Pricing for the Pixel 9 series in India starts at Rs. 79,999 for the base Pixel 9 model, while the Pro and Pro XL variants are priced at Rs. 1,09,999 and Rs. 1,24,999 respectively. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold tops the range at Rs. 1,72,999. The Pixel 9 series will be available starting August 22 via Flipkart, Croma, and Reliance Digital.
