Sundar Pichai shared his views on social media after the meeting.
In a recent virtual meeting, India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Google's CEO Sundar Pichai discussed Google's role in India's electronics manufacturing sector. The interaction occurred days before the upcoming Google for India conference, where further India-specific announcements are expected.
Sundar Pichai shared his views on social media after the meeting: "Thank you PM @narendramodi for the meeting today to discuss Google's ongoing commitment to India, and how we are expanding our operations, leveraging AI, and increasing our partnerships."
During the meeting, Prime Minister Modi acknowledged Google's recent partnership with Hewlett-Packard (HP) to manufacture Chromebooks in India. This collaboration is part of broader efforts to strengthen India's electronics industry and attract foreign investment.
The discussion also focused on Google's recent launches in India, specifically the Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, and Pixel Watch 2 devices. Over the past year, Google has been in discussions with Indian authorities about the possibility of manufacturing its Pixel range in the country. These talks aim to position Pixel devices as mass-market offerings, especially in the smartphone category.
While Google has made some headway in the Indian smartphone market with the release of Pixel 6A and 7A models, it has not yet entered the list of the top 10 best-selling smartphone brands in India. To improve customer experience, Google is focusing on after-sales services and has established partnerships with service providers, including F1 Solutions Pvt Ltd.
As both parties explore options for further collaboration, this meeting between Prime Minister Modi and Sundar Pichai marks a step in Google's ongoing commitment to the Indian market. With the Google for India conference on the horizon, industry insiders and consumers are looking forward to additional announcements that could impact India's digital landscape.
