Polestar sold 729 vehicles in the UK during August 2025, nearly doubling its performance from the 374 units registered in the same month last year.
Swedish premium electric vehicle manufacturer Polestar has posted impressive growth figures in the UK market, with the company achieving a remarkable 95% year-on-year increase in August 2025 whilst maintaining its position as Britain's fastest-growing premium electric vehicle brand.
According to official registration data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), Polestar sold 729 vehicles in the UK during August 2025, nearly doubling its performance from the 374 units registered in the same month last year. Despite this strong annual growth, monthly registrations declined by 11.1% from July's figure of 820 units.
The company's impressive year-to-date performance shows 9,872 electric vehicles sold from January through August 2025, representing a substantial 157% increase compared to the first eight months of 2024. This growth trajectory has positioned Polestar as a significant force in the UK's rapidly expanding premium electric vehicle segment.
Polestar's growth comes amid fierce competition from established luxury marques in the electric vehicle space. Tesla, which remains the dominant force in the UK electric vehicle market, recorded modest growth in August with the Model Y achieving 1,650 registrations and the Model 3 securing 1,593 units. However, Tesla's overall UK performance has shown signs of slowing, with September sales growing by just 0.11% year-on-year to 8,038 units.
German premium manufacturers continue to face challenges in the electric transition. BMW recorded a 13.9% increase in August sales to 5,200 units, whilst Audi experienced a significant 22.4% decline to 4,820 registrations. Mercedes-Benz achieved a modest 3.1% growth to 4,551 units during the same period.
The broader UK electric vehicle market demonstrated remarkable resilience during the summer months, with battery electric vehicle sales rising by 14.9% in August to achieve a record 26.5% market share for the year. This growth acceleration continued into September, when electric vehicle registrations reached an unprecedented 72,779 units, marking a 29.1% year-on-year increase and representing 23.3% of all new car sales.
Matt Galvin, Polestar UK Managing Director, attributed the company's success to strategic retail network expansion, noting that Polestar now operates 14 retail "Spaces" across the country. The introduction of the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 models has particularly resonated with British consumers seeking "striking design and innovative technology," according to Galvin.
