Porsche Announces Infotainment Retrofit Upgrade for Older 911, Cayman, Boxster Models

Porsche will make its Porsche Classic Communication Management Plus (PCCM Plus) infotainment system available as a retrofit option for additional older and discontinued models. The upgrade will bring current-day technology and features to 2009–2016 Cayman, Boxster, and 911 which it calls “future classics”.

The official retrofit, which Porsche engineers will perform at authorised service centres, means that modern touchscreens will blend in seamlessly with the interiors of these models, looking like original equipment. Vehicle-specific functions and features such as oil temperature and pressure displays will also be fully supported, as well as satellite imagery for navigation and visual speed limit indicators. Supported Boxster and Cayman models will have their acoustic parking assist augmented with a virtual display on the infotainment screen, showing distance to obstacles.

Porsche owners will be able to upgrade their cars’ entertainment and navigation capabilities with today’s must-have features including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, over-the-air updates, and current maps. Drivers will also get the advantage of steering wheel controls, integration with the instrument cluster display, and personalised settings. However it won't have all the features of Porsche's next-gen infotainment system for its latest and upcoming models

The Porsche Classic Communication Management Plus system is based on a 7-inch touchscreen. Two versions are available, for compatibility with different models across generations. The system includes Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, internal and external microphones, and a SIM slot for 4G cellular connectivity.

Depending on local regulations, video playback is allowed when the vehicle is parked. Digital radio reception is also available where supported. Scenic Roads is a navigation function that shows matching visuals when driving on winding, panoramic routes.

For personalisation, users can select the exterior colour of their Porsche, and the on-screen UI will change to match it, helping the new hardware blend in visually with older car interiors.
