Porsche Cayenne Electric to Get Inductive Wireless Charging, More Customisation and Convenience Options

Porsche has announced that the Cayenne Electric will be offered with inductive wireless charging, allowing owners to recharge it by simply parking it on top of a wireless pad. The company previously announced this feature, and now it is rolling out. This will eliminate the need to manually connect and disconnect a charging gun. In addition, the model will feature electrically operated doors, and buyers will be able to choose from over 100 new paint colours and new interior trim customisation options.

The wireless charging system requires a ground pad that owners will have to have installed permanently on their premises as well as a matching one on the underside of the Cayenne Electric. Porsche says the ground pad can be installed outdoors, and is weatherproof. Wireless charging speed tops out at 11kW, with 90 percent efficiency. 

Drivers will be guided to park in alignment with the ground pad using the car’s sensors and cameras. Charging will only initiate if no obstacles are detected between the two pads, and will stop automatically if any person or animal comes close to the vehicle. Sensors can detect overheating, such as if a metal object comes in the way of the two pads. The feature will require Porsche Connect, and is being rolled out now in various markets, beginning in Europe. 

Buyers can also now choose electrically operated doors. All four doors on the Cayenne Electric will be able to open and close automatically. Users only need to slightly pull the door handle from the outside, or touch a button on the inside. The doors can also be operated via the car’s central touchscreen, or a remote key. The driver’s door will close automatically when they fasten their seatbelt, or with a tap on the brake pedal. 

Sensors monitor the doors’ paths continuously for potential obstructions, and movement will stop if another vehicle, person, or object is too close. The system works even when parked on an incline. Manual override will always be possible.

The driver and front passenger can also now enjoy in-seat massagers, thanks to 16 adjustable pneumatic air cushions. There are five massage patterns with variable intensity. Six sound actuators create an immersive “4D” audio experience, which can be activated without the massaging function, if desired. New wellness mood modes integrate massage and audio into the overall in-cabin experience. 

Finally, Cayenne Electric buyers can now choose from 105 total paint colour options, as part of Porsche’s Paint to Sample offering under the Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur programme. The car was previously offered in 13 colours. There are also new interior options with the Extended Interior Style package, including new types of leather and stitching as well as Race-Tex material on interior surfaces.
