Here’s what we know about the upcoming flagship ADV in Royal Enfield’s stable.
Launch Date
The global unveiling of the new Royal Enfield Himalayan 452 will take place at the 2023 EICMA motorcycle show in Milan, Italy on November 7. As for the India launch, we expect it to make its debut at the 2023 Motoverse (formerly Ridermania) on November 26 in Goa. Royal Enfield had launched the Super Meteor 650 too at the Motoverse event last year so it could follow the same template with the new Himalayan.
Price
The current Himalayan 411 retails for ₹ 2.15 to 2.30 lakh (ex-showroom) depending on the purchase location. While a lot of people are speculating a starting price of under ₹ 2.50 lakh for the new Himalayan 452, we think that wouldn’t be the case. The new Himalayan 452 is an entirely new motorcycle from the ground up and has very few components in common with its predecessor so we expect the pricing to be between ₹ 2.75 and ₹ 2.95 lakh (ex-showroom). Having said that Royal Enfield did surprise us with the launch price of the 650 twins, can it pull off an encore? We hope so!
Variants & Colours
While Royal Enfield has released teasers with a white colour bike, spy shots have revealed two more shades. The Himalayan 452 will be available in a dual-tone shade of grey/red and yellow/black. What’s even more interesting is that the white shade bike was spotted with tubeless spoke wheels, while the other bikes were running conventional tube-type spoke wheels. This leads us to believe that the tubeless spoke wheels could be offered as a separate variant or it could be part of the aftermarket accessories kit. What we’re sure of is that the tubeless spoke wheels wouldn’t come cheap.
Engine
The new Royal Enfield ADV bike will be powered by an all-new engine. This will be the first production Royal Enfield motorcycle to feature liquid-cooling technology. The engine displacement is 451.6 cc and power output is 39.5 bhp. What we don’t know is the torque figure and we expect it to be around 37-40 Nm. The peak power is made at 8,000 rpm which means this new engine will be revv happy and will be quick. It will also get a 6-speed gearbox with slipper clutch.
Features
The Himalayan 452 sports a circular all-digital TFT instrument console and gets Bluetooth connectivity for call and message alerts. What’s even more intriguing is that it gets proper map navigation and not the conventional Tripper (turn-by-turn) navigation. This is a huge step up as no other bike in this segment or even a few segments above offers such navigation. Among the Indian brands we have only seen this on the Ather 450X. Other features on the bike include all-LED lighting, dual-channel ABS and we think it might also get a basic traction control system.
