Record-Holding Lucid Air Runs On Samsung Batteries

In July, the Lucid Air Grand Touring achieved a Guinness World Record for the longest distance travelled by an electric vehicle on a single charge, covering 1,205 km from Switzerland to Germany.

This feat has drawn global attention to the car’s advanced engineering and battery technology. Now, almost a month after the record was set, Samsung SDI is highlighting its contribution to this milestone.

Samsung SDI’s Batteries Power the Achievement

The Lucid Air is equipped with Samsung’s 21700 cylindrical batteries, which are central to its impressive range. 

Samsung notes that the battery pack allows the vehicle to gain up to 400 km of range in just 16 minutes of charging, thanks to its advanced cell design and ultra-fast charging architecture.

Longstanding Partnership with Lucid

Samsung SDI and Lucid have been collaborating since Lucid’s entry into the electric vehicle market in 2016. Samsung views this achievement as proof of its technological leadership in battery innovation. 

The company has expressed its intention to strengthen its partnership with Lucid, aiming to expand its global market share and accelerate the development of high-performance, safe battery products for future electric vehicles.

Samsung SDI: A Brief Overview 

Samsung SDI operates under the Samsung Group, and focuses on two segments. 

The Energy Solutions segment manufactures lithium-ion batteries, powering IT devices, electric vehicles (EVs), and energy storage systems (ESS). Meanwhile, the Electronic Materials division provides essential components for semiconductors and displays, supporting advanced technology across industries.

Known for its 21700 cylindrical batteries, Samsung SDI powers multiple popular EVs, and held a 4.6 per cent global EV battery market share in 2023.
