Reliance

One full charge is claimed to be good for 70-75km

One of India’s leading conglomerates, Reliance Industries, unveiled its first concept of battery swapping technology. Its swappable batteries are already in the engineering and manufacturing state with the plan to reach end consumers by 2024.

The concept was shown at The Battery Show that was being held with the Renewable Energy India Expo at Greater Noida. Reliance has been working on a Gigafactory and has also heavily invested in solid state battery technology. The fruits of its labour are about to be seen as we could see the electric revolution gain another big boost.

So, what is the battery capable of? Currently, the spokespeople at the event stated that when put into two-wheeler applications, one full charge would be good for 70-75km. "These swappable batteries can be charged using solar energy. They can also be used to power household appliances if a customer wants to do so," one of the company officials told PTI.

These same batteries can be used in household scenarios as well, to operate appliances and stuff. There will be a smartphone app to check the battery data like charge and health status and more.

"We are working along with automated Original Equipment (OE) makers for two-wheelers who would develop models that are compatible with these batteries," added the official. Considering that Hero, Gogoro and Bounce are already players in the removable/swappable battery tech field, with Honda soon to join them, we hope there’s some form of standardisation amongst the players so that it will only benefit the end consumer.
