Renault India marked a significant milestone on Sunday with the launch of the Kwid's 10th Anniversary Limited Edition, celebrating a decade of the entry-level hatchback that revolutionised India's budget car segment with its SUV-inspired design and affordable pricing.
The French carmaker has introduced a comprehensive refresh of the Kwid lineup, following the same strategy it previously employed with the Kiger SUV and Triber MPV earlier this year. The company has streamlined the variant nomenclature, replacing the previous RXL, RXT naming convention with clearer designations: Evolution (previously RXL), Techno (previously RXT), and Climber variants.
The limited 10th Anniversary Edition, restricted to just 500 units, builds upon the Techno variant and features distinctive styling elements including dual-tone colour options in Fiery Red with Black Roof and Shadow Grey with Black Roof. The special edition is priced at ₹5.14 lakh for the manual transmission and ₹5.63 lakh for the AMT variant, both ex-showroom pan-India.
The refreshed Kwid lineup now comes standard with three-point seatbelts for all seats across all variants, whilst the Climber variant has been upgraded with six airbags for enhanced safety. These updates mirror the feature additions Renault made to the Kiger and Triber models during their 2024 refresh, which included rear seat belt reminders and updated infotainment systems.
However, the celebratory launch comes against a challenging sales backdrop for the Kwid. The model has experienced a significant decline in monthly sales figures, dropping to just 235 units in August 2025, representing an 11.32 per cent month-on-month decline. Year-on-year performance has been particularly concerning, with July 2025 sales showing a 53.1 per cent drop compared to the previous year, selling only 265 units versus 565 units in July 2024.
Over the past six months (March to August 2025), Renault has sold a total of 2,616 Kwid units, making it the company's third-best seller after the Triber (9,642 units) and Kiger (3,907 units). The declining sales trend has affected Renault's overall market performance, with the brand holding just 0.9 per cent market share in August 2025.
The timing of the refresh coincides with significant price reductions following the implementation of GST 2.0 on 22nd September 2025. The removal of the 1 per cent cess and reduction from 29 per cent to 18 per cent GST has resulted in substantial price cuts across the Kwid range.
Venkatram Mamillapalle, Managing Director of Renault India, emphasised the importance of these benefits: "With the full benefits of GST reform passed on to customers, the Kwid stands out as the most attractive and premium-value option for car buyers".
The Kwid now starts at an even more competitive ₹4.29 lakh ex-showroom, with automatic variants beginning at ₹4.99 lakh. This pricing strategy positions the model as one of India's most accessible automatic transmission vehicles in the entry segment.
The GST reform has delivered significant savings for potential Kwid buyers across all variants:
Variant | Old Price (₹ Lakhs) | New Price (₹ Lakhs) | Price Difference (₹) | Percentage Reduction (%) |
---|---|---|---|---|
RXE MT (now Authentic MT) | 4.70 | 4.30 | 40,095 | 8.5% |
RXL (O) MT (now Evolution MT) | 5.10 | 4.66 | 43,495 | 8.5% |
RXL (O) AMT (now Evolution AMT) | 5.55 | 5.00 | 55,095 | 9.9% |
RXT MT (now Techno MT) | 5.55 | 5.00 | 55,095 | 9.9% |
RXT AMT (now Techno AMT) | 6.00 | 5.49 | 51,195 | 8.5% |
CLIMBER MT | 5.88 | 5.47 | 40,995 | 7.0% |
CLIMBER AMT | 6.33 | 5.88 | 44,795 | 7.1% |
CLIMBER MT Dual Tone | 6.00 | 5.58 | 41,995 | 7.0% |
CLIMBER AMT Dual Tone | 6.45 | 5.99 | 45,895 | 7.1% |
The maximum benefit of ₹55,095 applies to both the Evolution AMT and Techno MT variants, representing savings of up to 9.9 per cent compared to previous prices.
Despite the pricing advantages and anniversary celebrations, Renault faces the challenge of revitalising the Kwid's market performance in an increasingly competitive entry-level segment, where brands like Maruti Suzuki continue to dominate with models such as the Alto K10 and Wagon R.
