Year-to-date wholesales have climbed 36.6 per cent, with the company crediting sustained demand for the Duster.
Renault India dispatched 3,399 units to dealers in September 2026, a 20 per cent increase over August, as the French carmaker entered the festive season on firmer footing than a year ago.
The wholly owned subsidiary of Renault Group said its cumulative wholesales for the January–September 2026 period stood at 35,378 units, up 36.6 per cent from 25,886 units in the corresponding period last year. The company described this as its strongest nine-month performance since the Duster's debut in India, though this claim has not been independently corroborated against SIAM's wholesale data, which was not yet available at the time of writing.
The improvement comes as festive-season buying typically lifts dispatches across the passenger vehicle industry, with dealers stocking up ahead of Navratri and Diwali in anticipation of stronger retail footfalls. Renault's own growth, however, has outpaced the broader market for much of 2026, a trend the company has attributed largely to continued appetite for the Duster, which returned to Indian showrooms last year after a hiatus and has since anchored the brand's volumes in the compact SUV segment.
That segment remains among the most contested in the Indian market, with established nameplates from Hyundai, Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors competing on price, features and, increasingly, powertrain choice. Renault has leaned on the Duster's value positioning and recently introduced a hybrid variant to widen its appeal, placing the model alongside a growing number of electrified options from rivals as manufacturers respond to tightening emission norms and shifting buyer preference towards fuel-efficient SUVs.
For Renault, a double-digit sequential gain also offers some reassurance after a period in which the brand's India volumes lagged those of larger rivals. The company has been working to rebuild dealer confidence and expand its footprint beyond metro markets, where compact SUVs tend to find their strongest audience. Sustained month-on-month growth, if it continues through the remainder of the festive quarter, would support that effort and give Renault a firmer base heading into the new calendar year.
Industry-wide, passenger vehicle wholesales have shown uneven but generally positive momentum through 2026, with SUVs continuing to account for a growing share of overall sales. Analysts tracking the segment have pointed to festive discounting, new model introductions and improving rural demand as factors likely to shape volumes through the December quarter. Renault's September numbers, while modest in absolute terms compared with the segment's largest players, reflect that broader pattern of festive-led recovery.
The company has not disclosed a model-wise break-up for September, nor commented on retail sales or inventory levels at dealerships, both of which offer a more complete picture of underlying demand than wholesale dispatch figures alone.
