Rolls-Royce has revealed a new one-off Phantom that pays homage to the 1937 Phantom Sedanca De Ville used in the James Bond film Goldfinger. The iconic Bond film turns 60 this year, and it took Rolls-Royce three years to build the one-off Phantom Goldfinger.
The Phantom Goldfinger is finished in the same Yellow-Black two-tone colour as the 1937 Phantom used in the film. It also gets blacked-out 21-inch alloy wheels with silver accents, lending them a two-tone finish that also harks back to the 1937 Phantom. Interestingly, the Spirit of Ecstacy mascot on the bonnet is finished in silver with a plating of 18-carat gold to achieve what it calls the ‘gold reveal’ effect shown in the film.
Inside, there’s a plethora of 18- and 24-carat gold infused in the dials and the dashboard. The centre console houses an 18-carat gold speedform of the Phantom. The front and rear centre consoles' base and glovebox are also lined with gold. Even the VIN plate is finished in gold and the VIN ends with 007. Even the ‘Gallery’ on the dashboard gets a three-dimensional map of Furka Pass where most of the filming of Goldfinger takes place.
The antagonist in the movie, Auric Goldfinger, had gold golf clubs as well as a multicoloured umbrella. The Phantom Goldfinger also gets a gold-plated golf club in the boot and the door-mounted umbrella also gets the red, blue, green and yellow colours.
Nick Rhodes, Bespoke Designer, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, said, “Bringing Phantom Goldfinger into being was one of the Bespoke Collective’s greatest creative journeys to date. The elegant and whimsical features that reference the film’s most memorable moments are an exquisite demonstration of the power of Bespoke in adding a new chapter to an existing story. It was a privilege to be a part of the creative team that brought this highly sought-after collector’s piece to life.”
