Royal Enfield recently unveiled the Shotgun 650 and Himalayan 450. The manufacturer is actively working to expand its portfolio, particularly within the 650 range. Now, with the emergence of spy shots, the Classic 650 is on the horizon for an imminent launch. What adds to the intrigue is the anticipation of how affordably the Classic 650 will be priced, as it is expected to become the most economical option among the 650 cc models.
The spy shots indicate that the chassis remains the same as the Super Meteor, with the addition of some iconic elements borrowed from the Classic 350 to provide a cohesive family look. This includes the utilisation of chrome-finished engine cases, a departure from the blacked-out ones found on other variants, such as the Continental GT and Interceptor 650 base versions. Similar variations can be observed in the exhaust, where chrome pea shooter units will be employed, in contrast to the matte black ones seen on the Shotgun. Additionally, the engine guard is shared with the Super Meteor 650.
The suspension is to feature telescopic forks instead of the Showa USD fork, while the rear is equipped with twin shock absorbers. These conventional cost-cutting measures have proven effective, as demonstrated by the pricing of the Interceptor. Additionally, it appears that the fenders are shared with the Super Meteor 650. However, distinctions are noticeable in the rear number plate housing and the tail lamp, setting them apart from other models.
The headlamp unit features an LED borrowed from other 650cc motorcycles but now includes a cowl reminiscent of the classic 350. This setup is now accompanied by pilot lamps equipped with halogen bulbs. The motorcycle rides on spoked wheels with tube-type tires, a feature that Classic buyers seem to appreciate despite the possibility of dealing with punctures. From the images, it's evident that the seats are shared with the Shotgun 650.
Disc brakes are visible at both ends and, of course, dual-channel ABS is expected. If they provide a single-channel option, that could be a potential area for price reduction in marketing. One aspect that remains uncertain is the speedometer. While the bike will exude classic charm with an analogue metre, it's unclear whether it will utilise the single pod from the Classic 350.
With the Shotgun 650, Royal Enfield will have four 650 cc motorcycles in its lineup. But that is not all, they are also working on the new Classic 650. It is supposed to be the most affordable 650 cc motorcycle in the lineup. The test mules of the new motorcycle have been spotted now.
