Here are five very different flavours of motorcycling that one can take a look at for the same price of the Guerrilla 450
Royal Enfield dropped the Guerrilla 450 at a pretty good price. The roadster is the brand’s second offering in the Sherpa 450 platform, with prices ranging between ₹2.39 lakh - ₹ 2.54 lakh (ex-showroom). In this price range, you can get quite a few exciting bikes. Here’s a list of five alternatives:
QJ Motor SRC 500 is a retro roadster meant for chilled-out riding. It's powered by a 480cc air-cooled 2-valve motor that makes 25 bhp and 36 Nm. Its retro look is continued with the teardrop-shaped tank, low seat height and wide handlebar. The foot pegs are neutral set making the rider triangle very comfortable. The seat height of 800 mm is higher than that of the Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 so does the weight of 205 kg. It's a long bike with a long-stroke motor and likes to take things chill even though the engine displacement is pretty high. The retro feel keeps on with the dual pod instrument cluster but that's digital and has got pretty bright colourful telltale lights.
In this price range when it comes to performance the KTM 250 Duke is the one to go for. It features a 249.07 cc liquid-cooled engine that pushes out 31 bhp and 25 Nm, which are both 1 unit more than the previous bike. It's got a cleaner power curve, which should not feel intimidating while riding in the city but should keep things interesting on the highway. It's a sporty motorcycle which should be considered if the purpose is to access sporty handling even on daily commutes and seldom highway runs.
The India-made Harley comes in 3 variants and we always recommend you get the mid variant here. The H-D X400 is powered by a 440cc engine that makes 27 bhp and 38 Nm. This is expected to be low as the engine runs less compression to produce less heat due to its air/oil-cooled system. The engine is tuned for torque which makes it effortless for city riding. It gets a KYB USD fork but the rear suspension is gas-charged twin shock absorbers. This mid variant gets only Bluetooth connectivity and skips on diamond-cut alloy wheels. The Triumph Scrambler 400X is one of the most handsome-looking scramblers out there. This is due to its proper tall proportions which also give it a tall seat height of 835mm. It has a 398.15 cc liquid-cooled engine that makes 39.5 bhp and 37 Nm which are quite similar to Royal Enfield figures. Triumph Scrambler 400X runs a USD fork and monoshock suspension setup. This could be the bike that you could consider if you want something more adventure-capable than the RE Guerrilla 450 but also not stretch your budget till the Royal Enfield Himalayan. Comfort is good and the bike can do reasonably quick highway speeds while managing city traffic heat. The width of the handlebars is noticeably wide in traffic and gotta be careful there. The handling is nice and precise and the bike does not feel lazy.
Priced competitively at ₹2.49 lakh (ex-showroom), the TVS Apache RTR 310 is a tempting proposition for riders seeking a sporty upgrade. Its heart is the BMW co-developed 313cc, single-cylinder engine that pumps 35 bhp and 28.7 Nm. This should be perfect for weaving through city traffic and offering exhilarating bursts of acceleration. While the base model utilises a non-adjustable USD suspension setup it still delivers sharp handling, making those tight corners a playground. For riders who want more control, the Dynamic Kit steps in with fully adjustable suspension, allowing them to tailor the bike's responsiveness to their riding style and preferred terrain. This translates to a confidence-inspiring ride, whether attacking a twisty mountain road or carving through city streets. However, it's important to note that some riders have reported noticeable vibrations at highway speeds, which might be a factor to consider for those planning longer journeys.
