Both bikes start at ₹ 2.39 lakh, so which one offers more value?
Royal Enfield has introduced the Guerrilla 450 which is a blend between a roadster and a scrambler. Harley-Davidson has attempted a comeback in the Indian market with a co-developed bike, the Harley-Davidson X440, developed in collaboration with Hero At a price point of 2.39 lakh, the Harley-Davidson X440 is is the perfect rival to the Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 as the base variant starts at the same price. We have made a spec comparison that makes it easy to understand which motorcycle has superior specs for the given price tag.
The Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 draws inspiration from both scramblers and roadsters. Its fuel tank features a more flowing shape, and most components are borrowed from the Himalayan 450. The bike has a single-piece seat with a stepped design. In contrast, the Harley-Davidson X440 boasts a modern design language, with an all-metal front fender, rear fender, fuel tank, and side covers that accentuate its muscular and bold character, following a neo-retro aesthetic. The design of the Harley-Davidson X400 looks disproportionate especially when viewed from the rear there is a noticeable gap between the rear wheel and the pillion seat. This disappears when the bike is in motion and the suspension is loaded. Despite bearing the premium Harley-Davidson badge, the exposed wiring around the headstock and few crude welds reveal a more mass-market approach to assembly.
Dimensions | RE Guerrilla 450 | Harley-Davidson X440 |
---|---|---|
Wheelbase | 1440 mm | 1418 mm |
Ground Clearance | 169 mm | 170 mm |
Length | 2090 mm | 2,168 mm |
Seat Height | 780 mm | 805 mm |
Dry Weight | 174 Kg | 181 kg |
Kerb Weight (90% Fuel + Oil) | 185 Kg | 190 kg |
Both bikes have slightly sporty riding postures. The Royal Enfield Guerilla 450 with the wider handlebar seems to have a bit more leverage and a wider stance whereas the footpegs on the Harley-Davidson x440 are a bit more relaxed and centre-set than the Royal Enfield offering. The seat comfort on both bikes seems to be equal but the seat height on the Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 is lower at 780 mm whereas the Harley-Davidson X440 is much higher at 805 mm. So, the Royal Enfield bike will be friendlier for shorter riders and also has the weight advantage as well. Finally, the Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450's longer wheelbase may make it slightly more challenging to manoeuvre at slow speeds, but its lower seat height should compensate for this. The ground clearance of both bikes is nearly identical, with only a 1 mm difference, which shouldn't be a concern.
The Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 and Harley-Davidson X440 share some similarities, with both featuring all-LED lighting and riding modes across variants. However, its instrument clusters differ significantly. The Guerrilla 450's upper variants have a 4-inch round TFT display with mobile connectivity and Google Maps, while the base variant has a semi-digital cluster with the option to add a tripper navigation pod. In contrast, the X440's instrument cluster features a 3.5-inch TFT display with essential information, and the top-end X440 S takes it a step further with Bluetooth connectivity, enabling turn-by-turn navigation, music control, and phone management.

The Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 features a 450cc liquid-cooled engine from the Himalayan 450. This produces 39.5 bhp and 40 Nm. It's got a modified final drive with 2 teeth smaller for its smaller wheels and reduced weight. All variants get eco and performance modes. In contrast, the Harley-Davidson X440 has Hero developed 440cc engine with a simple 2-valve head and air-cooling, delivering 25 bhp and 38 Nm. This is a long-stroke design for stress-free low-end torque but lacks the Royal Enfield's free-revving nature and liquid-cooled efficiency. Quiet opposite to what Royal Enfield is expected of. The range on the Royal Enfield is claimed to be 300 km with its 11-litre tank while the 13.5-litre larger tank on the Harley should give it a longer range.
| RE Guerrilla 450 | Harley-Davidson X440 |
---|---|---|
Frame | Steel, tubular frame using the engine as a stressed member | Trellis Frame body |
Front Suspension | 43 mm telescopic fork | KYB 43 mm, Upside-Down Fork |
Rear Suspension | Linkage type mono-shock | Gas-filled Twin Shocks |
Brakes Front | Disc Brake 310mm | Disc brake 320 mm |
Brakes Rear | Disc Brake 270mm | Disc Brake 240 mm |
The Harley-Davidson X440 features a trellis frame, whereas the Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 has a twin-spar frame with the engine serving as a stress member. While the HD X440 is equipped with a USD fork, the RE Guerrilla 450 opts for a simpler and more affordable 43mm telescopic fork. However, the Guerrilla 450 has the advantage when it comes to the rear suspension, featuring a linkage mono shock, whereas the Harley-Davidson X440 relies on a gas-filled twin shock with 7-step preload adjustability. Having ridden the Harley, we can vouch for the fact that it offers one of the best ride qualities for any bike in this segment, as for the Guerrilla 450, we will have to wait till a proper real-world test.
The Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 has 17-inch tubeless tyres (120/70 R17 front, 160/60 R17 rear) with smaller wheels lowering the seat height. It features disc brakes with dual-channel ABS, with a 310 mm front disc and 270 mm rear disc. In comparison, the Harley-Davidson X440 has a larger 320 mm front disc but a smaller 240 mm rear disc, also with dual-channel ABS. The X440's base variant has spoke wheels with tube tyres (100/90 R18 front, 140/70 R17 rear).
Ex-showroom prices | Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 | Harley-Davidson X440 |
---|---|---|
Base | ₹ 2.39 lakh | ₹ 2.39 lakh |
Mid | ₹ 2.49 lakh | ₹ 2.59 lakh |
Top | ₹ 2.54 lakh | ₹ 2.79 lakh |
Starting at an attractive ₹2.39 lakh, both the Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 and Harley-Davidson X440 offer similar entry points. However, for feature-packed top trims, the price gap widens. The Royal Enfield settles at ₹2.54 lakh, while the Harley-Davidson reaches a steeper ₹2.79 lakh. Interestingly, this top-of-the-line Harley-Davidson X440 nears the price range of the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450, a bigger bike built on the same platform as the Guerrilla 450. This suggests a trade-off between features in the Harley and additional engine power and size in the Himalayan.
Overall if we take into consideration the price and the value that we get the Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 is far more in terms of just specs. The only play-up on Harley-Davidson’s side is the brand name and the status attached to owning a Harley-Davidson. Still, we suggest waiting till the full review is out on July 27 for a better understanding of how the Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 performs in our road test.
