Royal Enfield also has plans for mild-hybrid and full-hybrid configurations with this engine.
Royal Enfield is reportedly in advanced talks with Chinese motorcycle giant CFMoto to borrow its 250 cc engine. While the Indian manufacturer is yet to give an official confirmation on the same, reports state that the next-generation 250 cc engine will be part of a new ‘V’ platform. The motorcycle that will spawn off from this new platform will be the brand’s new entry-level model, slotting below the Hunter 350.
With the new engine comes new possibilities, and apparently, Royal Enfield is also exploring mild and full hybrid configurations on the same. This is primarily due to the stringent BSVI Phase 2 emission standard and the upcoming Corporate Average Fuel Efficiency (CAFE). Both these reforms are aimed at making two-wheelers cleaner and more efficient.
The engine will be designed and tuned in a manner so that it keeps Royal Enfield’s signature DNA. Moreover, the frame, suspension and even the overall design will be designed by Royal Enfield at its Chennai Highway Road facility. A lot will be riding on the shoulders of the upcoming ‘V’ platform, for it is expected to double RE’s annual production from 1 million to 2 million units. Plu,s given the fact that the bike will slot below the 350 cc range, it is expected to launch at a very affordable asking price compared to the likes of the Royal Enfield Hunter 350.
This deal with CFMoto will see Royal Enfield launch a product for the first time where the engine of the bike has been sourced from a foreign manufacturer. Up until now, all three of its engines – 350 cc, 450 cc, 650 cc, and even the upcoming 750 cc engine are being manufactured in-house by the brand. What remains to be seen is how authentic CFMoto’s engine will be to suit a Royal Enfield and its characteristics? As for the launch timeline, there is still a long time to go, but reports did state that an official announcement from Royal Enfield is expected by the end of the first quarter FY26.
