The company announced on Monday that it has begun manufacturing the new motors at its 200,000 square foot facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu.
Simple Energy has become India's first original equipment manufacturer to commercially produce electric motors without heavy rare earth elements. The breakthrough addresses growing concerns about supply chain dependencies in the global electric vehicle industry.
The company announced on Monday that it has begun manufacturing the new motors at its 200,000-square-foot facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. The motors deliver the same performance as traditional designs while eliminating the need for heavy rare-earth magnets.
"Global supply chain disruptions and material dependencies have made one thing clear: the future of electric mobility must be built on self-reliance," said Suhas Rajkumar, chief executive and co-founder of Simple Energy.
The new technology uses what the company describes as optimised compounds instead of heavy rare-earth magnets. Proprietary algorithms manage heat and torque delivery in real time to maintain performance levels.
Heavy rare-earth elements have traditionally been essential for electric vehicle motors because of their high torque density and compact size. However, supply chain vulnerabilities and geopolitical concerns have prompted manufacturers to seek alternatives.
Simple Energy developed the patented motor architecture through its in-house research and development team. The company designs and manufactures its own motors, allowing it to control the entire development process from testing to deployment.
