The Kushaq has been on sale in India since June 28, 2021.
The Skoda Kushaq has completed four years in the Indian automotive market, and the Czech brand has managed to sell around 89,000 units of the compact SUV in India since. As per SIAM data, the Kushaq accounts for nearly 77 per cent of the total SUVs sold by Skoda Auto India since the launch of the Kushaq.
Produced at the Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt Ltd (SAVWIPL) plant in Chakan, Pune, the Kushaq has 95 per cent localisation. It was also the first product under SAVWIPL’s India 2.0 plan, which uses the MQB A0 IN, an India-specific derivative of Volkswagen’s MQB platform, and it also underpins the Skoda Slavia, Skoda Kylaq, Volkswagen Taigun and Volkswagen Virtus.
In the first financial year (FY) of its sales, i.e. FY22, the Kushaq sold 21,427 units. It was followed by 25,300 units sold in FY23, making it its best year in sales to date. In FY24, Skoda India managed to sell 23,396 units of the Kushaq in India, followed by 17,363 units in FY25. In the first two months of FY26, Skoda India has sold 1,427 units only.
The sales of the Kushaq have taken a hit lately due to the launch of the Kylaq in January. The subcompact SUV from Skoda India is bringing in better numbers for the brand. However, that could change with the launch of the Kushaq facelift later this year, which could help regain some of the lost sales traction for the compact SUV.
The Kushaq, along with the Taigun, was the first car to achieve a full 5-star crash test rating from Global NCAP under its new and stricter testing protocols. The Kushaq is available with either a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine or a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine mated to either a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed automatic or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Skoda’s compact SUV is priced between ₹10.99 lakh and 19.11 lakh (ex-showroom, India). It rivals the likes of the Volkswagen Taigun, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Astor, Honda Elevate, Citroën Basalt, Citroën Aircross and Tata Curvv.
