Spotify is reportedly considering the addition of full-length music videos

In an effort to compete with industry giants like YouTube and TikTok, Spotify is reportedly considering the addition of full-length music videos. This move aims to strengthen Spotify's position in the streaming media era by capitalizing on the popularity and profitability of video content.

According to inside sources who told this to Bloomberg, Spotify has already initiated discussions with potential partners regarding the inclusion of full-length music videos on its platform. While the company has not made any official announcements about this development, it appears to be part of Spotify's broader strategy to establish video as a crucial element of its app.

Spotify has already taken steps in this direction by introducing features such as "canvases" and "clips." Musicians can upload looping GIFs under 10 seconds, known as canvases, which appear on the screen while their music plays. Additionally, the "clips" are short videos under 30 seconds, which serve as a storytelling tool for artists to engage with their fans in a manner similar to the popular video-sharing app TikTok.

Earlier this year, Spotify unveiled a TikTok-inspired music home screen that allows users to preview and swipe through emerging videos before deciding to listen to a complete track. Furthermore, the company recently announced that it has surpassed 100,000 podcasts with video, demonstrating its commitment to expanding its video offerings.

This strategic move by Spotify is a response to the fierce competition it faces from YouTube and TikTok, particularly for the younger Gen Z audience. YouTube, in addition to its music streaming service, provides fans with full-length music videos and has also introduced shorter, more concise videos known as Shorts. YouTube Music has also incorporated podcasts into its platform.

As Spotify continues to explore the addition of full-length music videos to its platform, users can expect an even more immersive and diverse audiovisual experience on the popular streaming service.
