Suzuki’s first electric scooter offering for India comes with a hefty price tag.
Suzuki Motorcycle India has ridden in the e-Access in India for ₹1,88,490 (ex-showroom, Delhi). Booking for the electric scooter has already commenced at all Suzuki dealerships across the nation, however, there is still no clarity when deliveries will commence. Suzuki is also offering an extended warranty of up to 7 years or 80,000 km at no cost and there’s also a complimentary buy-back assurance of up to 60 per cent after 3 years of purchase of the e-Access. Existing Suzuki customers can further avail a discount of up to ₹10,000, whereas for non-Suzuki customers it’s up to ₹7,000.

The scooter is powered by a 4.1 kW electric motor producing 15 Nm of torque. It offers three ride modes – Eco, Ride A and Ride B, along with reverse mode and regenerative braking. Suzuki claims the scooter delivers consistent performance even at 10 percent battery charge. The Suzuki e-Access uses a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery, which the company claims to offer up to four times longer battery life compared to conventional NMC batteries. The 3.07 kWh lithium phosphate battery offers a range of 95 km and 71 kmph top speed (both claimed figures).

Suzuki will offer the e-Access with both portable and fast charging options, giving customers greater flexibility. Using the portable charger, the electric scooter can be charged from 0 to 80 percent in 4 hours and 30 minutes, while a full charge takes 6 hours and 42 minutes. With a DC fast charger, charging time is significantly reduced, with 0 to 80 percent achieved in just 1 hour and 12 minutes, and a complete charge taking 2 hours and 12 minutes. DC fast chargers are currently available at over 240 outlets, with phased expansion planned. Portable AC chargers will be available across all dealerships.
The e-Access isn’t only the first electric scooter from the Japanese brand for our country but globally as well and it will be manufactured in India for export markets as well. While we did like the performance of the scooter, the pricing is way above its competitors and this could be a big problem for the brand. The TVS iQube is available between ₹1.13 and ₹1.69 lakh whereas the Bajaj Chetak is priced between ₹1.10 and ₹1.43 lakh (all prices mentioned are x-showroom).
