Slated for production at Suzuki Motor Gujarat in India, the new e Vitara is expected to launch in multiple global markets, including Europe, India, and Japan, by summer 2025.
Suzuki Motor Corporation has unveiled its first mass-production battery electric vehicle (BEV), the e Vitara, in a significant step toward the company’s carbon-neutral vision. The announcement was made at an international event in Milan, showcasing Suzuki’s move into the all-electric vehicle market. The new model, slated for production at Suzuki Motor Gujarat in India, is expected to launch in multiple global markets, including Europe, India, and Japan, by summer 2025.
The e Vitara’s design aims to bridge the functionality of an SUV with the advanced features of a BEV. Dubbed the “Emotional Versatile Cruiser,” the model adopts a design philosophy Suzuki calls “High-Tech & Adventure.” The SUV-inspired exterior includes large-diameter tyres, a long wheelbase, and a robust stance that reflects the vehicle’s adventurous spirit. Inside, the e Vitara’s cockpit boasts an integrated display, high-tech equipment, and rugged detailing, all contributing to a futuristic yet resilient aesthetic.
Central to the e Vitara’s performance is its BEV powertrain, which combines an efficient eAxle with lithium-iron-phosphate batteries. The European version of the e Vitara will come with two battery capacity options: 49 kWh and 61 kWh. Drive configurations include both two-wheel drive (2WD) and four-wheel drive (4WD), with seating for five passengers. In terms of power output, the 2WD model’s motor produces a maximum of 142 bhp, while the 4WD model offers a combined output of up to 181 bhp (172 bhp at the front and 64 bhp at the rear), along with a maximum torque of 300 Nm.
Key dimensions of the e Vitara include a length of 4,275 mm, a width of 1,800 mm, a height of 1,635 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,700 mm. Ground clearance is set at 180 mm, and the model features a minimum turning radius of 5.2 meters.
One of the e Vitara’s notable features is its electric 4WD system, AllGrip-e, which uses two independent eAxles, one at the front and one at the rear. Designed to harness Suzuki’s experience with four-wheel-drive systems, AllGrip-e enhances stability and precision. It includes a Trail mode equipped with a limited-slip differential function (LSD), which allows the vehicle to handle challenging terrain by braking spinning tyres and redirecting torque to wheels with better traction.
The e Vitara is built on Suzuki’s new Heartect-e platform, which has been specifically developed for BEVs. This platform incorporates a lightweight structure designed to protect high-voltage components while optimising the vehicle’s interior space through a compact layout. The floor design maximises battery capacity, providing additional room for passengers and cargo.
