Here’s a closer look at Suzuki’s big adventure bike in 20 photos
Suzuki Motor India has launched the V-Strom 800DE, an adventure motorcycle ready to compete in the Indian market. Here's a closer look, starting with its design.
The V-Strom 800DE's design reflects its adventure prowess. The front features a sleek profile with a short beak.
Vertically stacked LED headlights dominate the front fascia. Along with position lighting placed in front of the 3-step adjustable windscreen.
The bodywork on the side features angular lines matching the front and rear design elements, contributing to the V-Strom 800DE's overall modern and aggressive look.
A lightweight resin luggage rack integrates seamlessly with the passenger section of the seat, offering a larger surface for carrying cargo or luggage.
This design choice might be a trade-off for some riders, as the focus on compactness results in a taller seat height of 855 mm.
Suzuki might offer panniers as accessories to attach to the luggage rack system, expanding the storage capacity for extended trips.
The heart of the V-Strom 800DE is a 776cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine with a unique 270-degree crank. This configuration promises a thrilling ride with a characteristic V-twin rumble, delivering an impressive 84.3 bhp and 78 Nm of torque.
The Suzuki ADV offering features a six-speed gearbox with aa bi-directional quickshifter for clutchless gear changes.
The V-Strom 800DE gets an informative five-inch TFT display, keeping you informed of all the vital stats while riding. The bike gets selectable riding modes, including a dedicated Gravel mode.
Additional features like traction control and Suzuki's Low RPM Assist ensure a safe and confident ride in any situation.
Suzuki has opted for a proven design with the V-Strom 800DE's chassis, leveraging the strengths of a familiar platform while incorporating key modifications for adventure riding. The foundation is a steel frame borrowed from the GSX-8S.
The sub-frame has undergone a significant transformation. It's been lengthened and reinforced to handle the additional weight of a pillion passenger and luggage, essential for extended adventure trips. This thoughtful modification is expected to maintain its balance of stability and agility even when fully loaded.
The V-Strom 800DE features an adjustable USD fork at the front. This type of upside-down fork design offers increased rigidity and better handling, especially when tackling rough terrain. Riders can adjust the preload and damping settings to personalize the suspension for their riding style and weight.
At the rear, the V-Strom 800DE is equipped with a monoshock with a remote preload adjuster. This allows riders to easily adjust the suspension sag based on the load (rider, luggage, etc.) for optimal handling. The monoshock likely uses a linkage system to provide progressive damping, soaking up bumps and offering a comfortable ride.
The wheels, a 21-inch front and a 17-inch rear, are wrapped in Dunlop Trailmax Mixtour tyres. One point to note is the use of tube-type Dunlop Mixtour tyres on the tube spoked wheels. Unlike some competitors, the V-Strom 800DE misses out on tubeless spoke wheels.
The V-Strom 800DE comes equipped with dual 310mm discs with four-piston calipers at the front. This powerful braking setup provides strong stopping power and excellent control, crucial for off-road riding and quick maneuvers.
At the rear, a single 260mm disc with a single-piston caliper provides sufficient braking force. Additionally, dual-channel ABS comes standard with the option to switch off the rear ABS for more control in off-road situations where controlled skids might be necessary.
Undercutting rivals like the Honda XL750 Transalp and Triumph Tiger 850 Sport with a ₹10.30 lakh (ex-showroom) price tag, the V-Strom 800DE emerges as a tempting choice in India's big adventure bike segment.
Overall, speaking, this whole package is the spiritual successor to the older generation of the V-Stroms. This is attributed to the 270-degree firing order that resembles that of a V-twin, or the tube tyres. We are excited to swing our legs over and see if this has got what it takes to beat the big guns of the segment.
