Starting September 1, Ganesh Mani will assume dual responsibilities as the new chief executive while continuing his current position.
Switch Mobility has announced that Chief Executive Officer S Mahesh Babu will be departing from his role on August 31, 2025. The electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer confirmed that Babu's exit follows his decision to explore new ventures beyond the Hinduja Group ecosystem.
Starting September 1, Ganesh Mani will assume dual responsibilities as the new chief executive while continuing his current position as chief operating officer at Ashok Leyland. This strategic appointment reflects Switch India's commitment to strengthening operational synergies with its parent organisation.
The executive change comes at a time when Switch India has reached EBITDA breakeven status for the fiscal year 2025. This financial achievement positions the company for accelerated growth in the competitive electric mobility sector.
Dheeraj G Hinduja, chairman of Switch Mobility was quoted as saying by Entrepreneur India: "We would like to place on record our appreciation to Mahesh for his significant contributions during his tenure with us."
The appointment of Mani seems like a move to enhance operational coordination between Switch India and Ashok Leyland. This strategy focuses on cost optimisation while sustaining innovation momentum in EV technologies, specifically targeting battery-electric buses and light commercial vehicles.
Mani's professional background emphasises operational excellence and large-scale organisational transformation initiatives. These credentials align with Switch India's expansion objectives and profitability targets.
As a collaborative venture between Ashok Leyland and UK-based Optare, Switch Mobility concentrates on zero-emission commercial transportation solutions. The company's existing lineup features the IeV3 (1.25-tonne capacity) and IeV4 (1.75-tonne capacity) electric light commercial vehicles, distributed through selected Ashok Leyland LCV dealerships.
In the electric bus category, Switch offers 12-meter vehicles capable of traveling up to 200 kilometres per charge cycle.
Switch Mobility reports having more than 1,000 electric buses and an additional 1,000 electric LCVs currently operational across various markets. The company's fleet has accumulated over 150 million kilometres of service, contributing to a reduction of more than 100,000 tons of CO₂ emissions.
