Switch Mobility says it has now deployed more than 2,400 electric buses across the world.
Switch Mobility, the electric bus manufacturing arm of homegrown Hinduja Group, has completed the delivery of 100 electric buses to the Mauritius in what the company describes as the largest electric bus export from India to date. The final batch of 90 vehicles was handed over at a formal ceremony attended by senior officials from both countries. India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar transferred custody of the buses to Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam, with the diplomatic weight of the occasion reflecting the significance of the transaction to both governments.
The buses are being sent by the Centre to Mauritius under a government-to-government arrangement.
Procurement was handled through an open tender run by Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), and day-to-day operations will be overseen by the National Transport Corporation, Mauritius's state-owned public transport operator.
The model deployed is the SWITCH EiV12, which seats up to 45 passengers and is fitted with floor-mounted lithium iron phosphate batteries -- a configuration the manufacturer says lowers the vehicle's centre of gravity and improves stability. The buses use a rear dual-gun charging interface designed to cut turnaround times at depots. Each vehicle also runs the company's proprietary telematics platform, SWITCH iON, which enables real-time monitoring of vehicle health and fleet management.
The initiative forms part of a joint effort by both governments to reduce emissions from public transport and modernise Mauritius's transit infrastructure.
Ganesh Mani, Chief Executive of Switch Mobility, said that the delivery marked an important milestone in supporting Mauritius's shift to electric mobility and that the company remained committed to helping the island develop a more sustainable transport ecosystem.
Switch Mobility says it has now deployed more than 2,400 electric buses across the world, with the combined fleet having covered in excess of 150 million kilometres since the company was founded.
