Tata Aeris Launched In India: Variants Explained

Tata Motors has rolled out the Aeris, a compact sedan positioned under the "Defeat Boring" campaign, in five distinct trims — Smart, Pure, Pure+, Creative and Accomplished — each building progressively on the one below it. The car is offered with both a petrol engine and an iCNG (intelligent CNG) powertrain, and buyers should note that equipment, wheel options and even transmission behaviour differ between the two fuel types.

The base: Smart

The entry-level Smart trim comes with a 12.7cm digital instrument cluster, six airbags, ISOFIX child-seat anchors, ABS with EBD and Corner Stability Control, Halo Lightbar connected tail lamps, premium melange fabric under-thigh support on the front seats, tilt steering, rear parking sensors, manual air-conditioning and three-point ELR seat belts with reminders on all seats.

Pure

Stepping up to Pure adds Bluetooth audio built into the digital cluster (bring-your-own-device, for Pure only), two speakers, steering-mounted audio controls, a height-adjustable driver's seat, day/night inside rear-view mirror, all four power windows, electrically adjustable ORVMs with turn indicators, central locking with a flip key, and Follow Me Home headlamps.

Pure+

Pure+ introduces the 20.03cm HD touchscreen infotainment system, four speakers, an HD reverse parking camera, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rear AC vents, Electronic Stability Programme with traction control, Hill Hold Control, a tyre pressure monitoring system, a rear centre armrest with cupholders, and a Shark-fin antenna with GPS. Cruise control is also introduced here, though it is not available on the CNG automated manual transmission (AMT). Wheel specification splits by fuel here too: petrol Pure+ gets R15 Dynamic Hyperstyle alloys, while CNG Pure+ gets a 14-inch version of the same design.

Creative

Creative brings the bigger 26.03cm HD touchscreen, a 360-degree surround-view camera with 2D/3D views, signature LED headlamps and daytime running lights, Infinity LED connected tail lamps, automatic climate control, rain-sensing wipers, auto headlamps, a blind-view monitor, passive entry with passive start, auto-folding mirrors, chrome door handles and a cooled glovebox. The R15 Diamond Aero alloy wheels seen in brochure imagery are reserved for the petrol version only.

Accomplished

At the top sits Accomplished, which adds LuxTouch and ventilated AeroLux leatherette seats, a dashcam recorder, a dual wireless phone-charging deck, LED fog lamps, a rear 65W USB Type-C charger, a soft-touch leatherette front armrest, iRA connected-car technology with more than 35 features, and a dual-tone roof — the only variant to get it.

Petrol vs iCNG: what changes

Both powertrains use the same 1.2-litre Revotron three-cylinder engine, paired with a five-speed manual or AMT gearbox, but performance figures differ by fuel. On petrol, the engine produces 86PS and 113Nm; running on CNG, output drops to 75.5PS and 96.5Nm, reflecting the change in fuel characteristics. The iCNG car also carries additional safety hardware specific to gas operation: automatic leak detection that switches the vehicle to petrol, a fire extinguisher tucked under the co-driver's seat, and a thermal-incident protection system that vents gas safely from the cylinders in an emergency.

Tata says its twin-cylinder layout, positioned beneath the boot floor, preserves full, usable luggage space rather than compromising it, as is common on other CNG cars. Fuel capacity also differs: the petrol Aeris carries a 35-litre tank, while the iCNG version pairs a 35-litre petrol tank with a 70-litre (water capacity) CNG tank.

Tyre sizes vary by trim and fuel too — Smart and Pure ride on 14-inch wheels, while Pure+, Creative and Accomplished move to 15-inch alloys on petrol, though CNG variants retain 14-inch wheels throughout the range.

Tata Motors backs the Aeris with a three-year or 100,000km standard warranty across the line-up.
