Tata Elxsi and Synopsys collaborate to develop virtual ECUs, which help streamline software testing for software-defined vehicles.
Tata Elxsi has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Synopsys, a US-based electronic design automation company, to collaborate on advanced automotive virtualisation solutions.
The partnership focuses on delivering pre-verified virtual electronic control units (vECUs), essential for software-defined vehicle development. These solutions enable efficient software testing and validation, reducing reliance on physical prototypes.
Tata Elxsi claims that by combining its expertise in embedded systems with Synopsys’ virtualisation tools, the collaboration will support over 50 global automotive OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers.
The companies are already working with several global clients on vECU integration, software bring-up, and board support package development.
These efforts span vehicle domains like powertrain, chassis, and central compute, allowing early validation of software in simulated real-world scenarios, which is claimed to cut costs and speed up production timelines.
This approach is supposed to help automakers simulate complex vehicle functions, improving software quality and reducing development complexity in India’s growing software-defined vehicle market.
The tie-up is expected to accelerate the adoption of virtual ECUs across India and global markets. By integrating advanced virtualisation with practical engineering, the collaboration aims to set a new standard for efficient, cost-effective automotive software development, aligning with the industry’s software-driven future.
