Tata Motors has finally launched the Harrier EV in India at ₹21.94 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The Harrier EV is the brand’s flagship EV till the Sierra EV is launched later this year. Prices for the remaining variants will be announced by the end of this month.
The Harrier EV comes with a dual-motor setup on the top-spec variants with all-wheel drive (AWD). This variant produces 156 bhp and 504 Nm of torque, helping propel the Harrier EV from 0-100 kmph in 6.3 seconds. Since it comes with AWD, the Harrier EV has an approach angle of 25.3 degrees, a departure angle of 26.4 degrees and a breakover angle of 16.6 degrees. It also has six terrain modes – normal, sand, mud ruts, snow/grass, rock crawl and custom.
Tata Motors’ latest electric SUV has a 75 kWh battery with a claimed range of 627 km on a full charge. Tata Motors claims 250 km of range can be added in just 15 minutes using a 120 kW DC fast charger. Tata Motors also said the battery can be charged from 20-80 per cent in 25 minutes. The Harrier EV also gets a smaller 65 kWh battery. The larger battery pack gets the option of rear-wheel drive (RWD) and AWD, while the 65 kWh battery pack only has a RWD setup.
The Harrier EV gets features like a 14.5-inch QLED touchscreen, developed by Samsung, as well as Dolby Atmos. It also gets what Tata Motors claims is a 540-degree camera, a step-up from a 360-degree camera, as it also shows feed from under the car. Other features include an updated Arcade.ev app suite, automatic parking, a “summon” mode, connected car tech, dual-zone climate control, electric IRVM, vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-load functionality, blind spot camera, and more.
Safety features include xxx airbags, stability control, hill-hold control, three-point seatbelts with reminders as well as ADAS level 2. While there are no crash test ratings yet, Tata Motors is confident the Harrier EV will have a five-star crash test rating from Bharat NCAP. The results should be announced very soon.
The new Harrier EV will be offered in three trims – Adventure, Fearless and Empowered. It will also come with the Stealth edition right from the start. It rivals the likes of the MG ZS EV (₹18.98 - 26.64 lakh), Windsor EV Pro (₹17.25 - 18.10 lakh), BYD Atto 3 (₹24.99 - 33.99 lakh), Mahindra BE 6 (₹18.90 - 26.90 lakh), Mahindra XEV 9e (₹21.90 - 30.50 lakh), Hyundai Creta Electric (₹17.99 - 24.38 lakh) and the Tata Curvv EV (₹17.49 - 21.99 lakh).
