Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles set a record in FY26 by filing 144 patents, 21 designs, and 35 copyrights, focusing on safety, electric vehicle technology, and hydrogen-powered engines for sustainable mobility.
Tata Motors' commercial vehicle division has achieved a new milestone in innovation by filing 144 patent applications during the 2025-26 financial year. This represents the highest number of annual patent filings ever recorded by the company’s commercial vehicle division, signalling a robust focus on home-grown research and development.
The recent surge in intellectual property activity is closely linked to the strategic goals of the company. These include advancing vehicle safety, enhancing product reliability, and reducing the total cost of ownership for fleet operators. A significant portion of the new filings targets sustainable mobility, with engineers focusing on electric vehicle technologies and hydrogen-powered internal combustion engines to meet future environmental standards.
Beyond patents, the company’s creative output included 21 design applications and 35 copyright filings within the same period. Tata Motors also successfully secured 15 new patent grants this year, bringing its cumulative total of granted patents to more than 650. This growing portfolio highlights the brand's shift towards becoming a technology-driven leader in the global automotive sector.
Mr Aniruddha Kulkarni, Vice President and Head of Engineering at Tata Motors Ltd, noted that the record filings reflect the technical excellence and passion of the engineering teams. He emphasised that these innovations are designed to serve the long-term interests of customers while establishing the company as a global benchmark for commercial mobility.
Following a corporate restructuring in late 2025, the company continues to trade on the BSE and National Stock Exchange, leveraging its leadership in trucks, buses, and utility vehicles to support the national economy through intelligent and future-ready transport solutions.
