ARAI has awarded the Certification for N1 category of vehicles.
Tata Motors has been awarded a certificate for the Production Linked Incentives (PLI) Scheme for commercial vehicles under the N1 category. This marks the first time the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) has given a PLI certificate for such a category.
The N1 category includes commercial vehicles that can carry a load of up to 3,500 kg or 7,700 pounds. Tata Motors has three products in this category – Ace, Winger and Yodha – which will benefit from the PLI scheme.

The PLI scheme provides financial incentives to manufacturers to boost domestic production of automotive products and components. As per the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI), the PLI scheme’s primary objectives include “overcoming cost disabilities, creating economies of scale and building a robust supply chain” in the automotive industry. The PLI scheme also aims to improve exports of the associated products.
ARAI claims that the certificate has been awarded following the meticulously designed standard operating procedures (SOPs) of Automotive PLIs defined by the MHI.
