Tata Punch EV Facelift Scores 5 Stars In Bharat NCAP Crash Tests

Tata Motors has announced the Punch EV facelift, launched earlier this year, has received a five-star rating in the Bharat NCAP crash tests. The electric micro SUV scored 31.09 of 32 points in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), and 45 of 49 points in Child Occupant Protection (COP). This is the Tata Punch EV’s second crash test assessment by the Bharat NCAP. The model was previously tested in its pre-facelift avatar back in 2024 and scored 31.46 of 32 points in AOP and 45 of 49 points in COP respectively.

The model tested was the Tata Punch EV Empowered+ S Long Range variant, but the rating applies across the complete range irrespective of the battery option. With respect to Adult Occupant Protection, the Punch EV facelift scored 15.71 of 16 points in the frontal offset deformable barrier test. The electric offering scored 15.74 of 16 points in the side movable deformable barrier test. The test concluded that the body shell and structure remained stable during impact.

The test results further observed that the driver’s head, neck, pelvis, and thighs were rated ‘good’ in the frontal impact test. The chest and lower legs received an ‘adequate’ rating. Protection to the front passenger was deemed ‘good’ for all critical body regions. In the side impact and side pole impact tests, the Punch EV facelift offered ‘good’ protection, while the driver’s chest received ‘adequate’ rating in the side barrier test.

With respect to Child Occupant Protection, the 2026 Tata Punch EV hit a perfect score in the dynamic performance assessment (24/24) and Child Restraint System (CRS) assessment (12/12). The model lost four points overall in the vehicle assessment section. The COP tests included 18-month-old and three-year-old crash test dummies, both of which were mounted on rearward-facing child seats. The child occupants received full scores in the frontal and side impact tests as well.

The 2026 Tata Punch EV facelift comes with six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, Hill Hold Assist, ISOFIX anchorages, reverse parking sensors, and TPMS as part of the standard kit. The model also comes with a 360-degree camera, blind-spot monitoring on the top trims that further improve the safety quotient.

The Tata Punch EV remains one of the more popular budget electric offerings, and the five-star rating reinforces the trust buyers have bestowed in the vehicle. Priced from ₹9.99 lakh (ex-showroom), the electric SUV takes on the Citroen e-C3X, MG Windsor EV, Mahindra XUV 3XO EV, and even the Tata Nexon EV.
