Tata Motors launched the Safari facelift alongside the Harrier facelift, earlier this week. (All prices ex-showroom, India). Like the Harrier facelift, the automatic gearbox is available from the Pure+ trim onwards but is not available on the Adventure trim that succeeds it.

Much like the Harrier, the Safari also receives comprehensive cosmetic and features updates with the facelift. Unlike before where the Harrier and Safari looked very similar, Tata Motors has made both its SUVs look more distinct. The Safari facelift also gets a split bumper and grille design but the grille on the Safari is much larger than the Harrier. Even the shape of the headlamp housing is different on both SUVs. The Safari facelift also gets a full-width LED light-bar, a new design for the alloy wheels and new light signatures in the tail-lamps.
Inside, as well, the Safari facelift also has been extensively redesigned and gets new free-standing touchscreens measuring 10.25-inch or 12.3-inch, depending on the trim. Like the Harrier, the faux wood trim has been replaced by a combination of leatherette, gloss black and textured panels, accompanied by an ambient lighting strip.

Features upgrades include a touch-based HVAC control panel, four-spoke steering wheel, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster with navigation, dual-zone climate control, a 10-speaker JBL sound system and more. Safety features include up to 7 airbags (6 airbags are standard across the range), ADAS, hill hold assist, among others. The Safari also gets the option of 6 seats but that is only available on the top-spec Accomplished+ trim.
Mechanically, the Safari facelift remains unchanged and it gets a 168bhp, 350Nm, 2.0-litre diesel engine mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox powering the front wheels. It also offers terrain response modes (Normal, Rough & Wet) and multiple drive modes (Eco, City & Sports).
