The Sierra achieved an adult occupant protection score of 31.14/32 and a child occupant protection score of 44.73/49.

On the day of the launch of the Renault Duster, Tata Motors wanted its own moment in the sun too. Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (BNCAP) has just released the safety ratings for the Tata Sierra and it has aced it with flying colours. The SUV received a 5 star rating for both adult occupant protection and child occupant protection.

The tests covered frontal offset and side impact scenarios, along with child restraint performance and safety assist features such as electronic stability control and seat belt reminders. The rating applies to multiple Sierra variants.

In the Bharat NCAP assessment, the new Sierra has an adult occupant protection score of 31.14 out of 32 points. The child occupant protection score is 44.73 out of 49 points. These numbers place the Sierra in the five-star band for both adult and child safety under the current Bharat NCAP protocol.

The adult occupant protection score comes from two main tests. In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, the Sierra recorded 15.14 points out of 16. In the side movable deformable barrier test, it recorded 16 out of 16. A side pole impact test result marked “OK” confirms that the SUV met the extra requirement linked to a five-star rating for adult protection.

On the child protection side, the Sierra’s dynamic score was 23.73 out of 24, a child restraint system installation score of 12 out of 12 and a vehicle assessment score of 9 out of 13. The tested model used ISOFIX mounting points on the second-row outer seats and offered an airbag cut off switch, along with electronic stability control, seat belt reminders and pedestrian protection systems.

At present, Tata Harrier EV and Mahindra XEV 9e hold the highest Bharat NCAP scores, with 32 out of 32 for adult protection and 45 out of 49 for child protection. Models such as Mahindra BE 6 and Tata Punch EV also post adult scores above 31 and child scores of 45. In comparison, the Sierra score sits close to these models but does not match the absolute maximum recorded numbers
