Telangana is evaluating a proposal to provide electric scooters to female college students to improve mobility, safety and access to education while supporting the state’s push for electric mobility.
The Telangana government is evaluating a proposal to provide electric scooters to female college students in an effort to improve mobility and safety while commuting to educational institutions.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said the plan is currently under review. According to Reddy, the state administration is examining the feasibility of offering electric scooters to women pursuing higher education across Telangana. The initiative is intended to make daily travel easier for students, particularly those who commute long distances to attend college.
The government believes improved transport options could help students travel more conveniently between their homes and educational institutions while reducing dependence on crowded public transport systems.
Officials noted that the scheme remains at a preliminary stage and would require detailed planning before any rollout. Key aspects such as budget allocation, eligibility criteria and the distribution mechanism for the vehicles would need to be finalised.
The proposal also aligns with commitments made during the 2023 state assembly elections, and the government is currently exploring ways to implement the initiative effectively.
Authorities added that the plan is linked to Telangana’s broader push toward electric mobility and environmental sustainability. The state has been introducing measures to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles, including expanding electric public transport and promoting cleaner mobility solutions in urban areas.
