HENSOLDT’s advanced avionics suite will work as a “digital nervous system” for the aircraft, designed for uncompromising safety, situational awareness, and operational efficiency in dense urban environments, the company said.
Indian startup Ubifly Technologies, the firm behind ‘The ePlane Company’ has announced a partnership with Germany’s HENSOLDT Avionics, a global leader in sensor solutions and mission management electronics. The ePlane Company has been working on developing an electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft - e200X air taxi, and the new association aims to help the firm push its flight aspirations higher. This is the second such major collaboration effort after partnering with IIT Madras for a new integrated prototyping and testing facility.
The partnership with HENSOLDT comes as The ePlane Company moves towards developing a full-scale prototype of the e200X, up from a subscale prototype. HENSOLDT’s advanced avionics suite will work as a “digital nervous system” for the aircraft, designed for uncompromising safety, situational awareness, and operational efficiency in dense urban environments, the company said.

The extended avionics suite will serve as the eyes and ears of the e200X. HENSOLDT’s technology promises to deliver on critical functions and comprises the EuroNav 7 Next Gen, which ensures the e200X can navigate complex cityscapes with precision, providing advanced moving maps and mission management that deliver total situational awareness within the urban jungle. There will also be CaviSight (Visual Landing Aid, which will allow the air taxi to land on a rooftop helipad through enhanced vision capabilities by managing camera feeds, and giving a clear augmented view and assistance during takeoff and landing.
Furthermore, the avionics suite will include the RF1 Smart Antenna to enable collision avoidance, along with CaviConnect for secure connectivity with a robust datalink between the aircraft and ground stations to enable real-time data exchange.
ePlane says its engineers are working with HENSOLDT to seamlessly integrate these systems on the e200X, ensuring the aircraft is ready to meet the operational demands. Moreover, the integration of the EB1 Multipurpose Airborne Computer promises smooth-functional applications, and will also make the vehicle ready for autonomous capabilities in the future.

Speaking about the partnership, Prof. Satya Chakravarthy, Founder & Technical Lead, The
ePlane Company, said, Building a certifiable eVTOL requires the flawless integration of highly advanced subsystems into a single, harmonious platform. By partnering with HENSOLDT, we aren’t just buying components; we are integrating a legacy of aviation safety into the DNA of the e200x. This avionics suite provides the comprehensive situational awareness required to operate safely in dense urban environments.”
Michael Groeninger, Managing Director, HENSOLDT Avionics GmbH, said, “We are proud to support ePlane in their mission to alleviate urban congestion. Our avionics are designed for the most demanding missions, and the operational profile of an eVTOL in India is the ultimate proving ground. Together, we are defining the standards for situational awareness in the Advanced Air Mobility sector.”
The new facility also underscores the broader role of IIT Madras in nurturing advanced aerospace innovation. Through its incubation ecosystem, the institute has provided infrastructure, specialised talent, and academic validation support that have helped the company move from concept stage to certification-ready development.
The ePlane Company’s e200X will have a footprint of 8x10 metres, allowing it to optimise dense urban spaces for seamless takeoff and landing. The company claims the e200X will have a range of 110 km for versatile commuting and logistics operations without requiring frequent charging. The aircraft will be able to fly at a speed of 160 kmph, and will be able to carry one pilot and two passengers, or about 200 kg.
