Extended warranty comes with a lot of perks and ensuring the bikes’s health is a major one at that.

There has been a flurry of announcements these past few weeks where two-wheeler marques assured their customers that they are willing to cover their respective bikes’ engines for up to 10 years. While the Italians, Aprilia, did come under flak for engine reliability issues, so their response seemed apt. But the addition of the rest of these companies came across as pleasantly surprising:

KTM

KTM 390 Duke

KTM announced this week that the 390 Duke will be available with an extended warranty at the same standard price for up to 10 years. These include the engine and a select few electrical parts. The program is transferable and can be bought by new Duke owners who brought their bikes a few months ago. The offer is however available for just this month, i.e. till June 30.

Triumph

Even Triumph announced last week that its 400 cc bikes can be bought with a 10 year extended warranty program, and just like KTM it will be up for grabs limited to this month only. The warranty covers the engine and a select few electrical parts, and will command the same standard price added to the on-road price. The Scrambler 400 XC is not available with the added warranty though.

Suzuki

Earlier in 2024, Suzuki announced two extended warranty programs based on durations – 2+5 & 2+8 years. This was available with both its 150 cc and 250 cc bikes. For scooters like the Avenis, Access, etc, the 10 year program would cost ₹1,799 and for bikes it was ₹2,299. The 7 year program was ₹1,249 and ₹1,599, respectively.

Yamaha

Yamaha celebrated its 40 years in the motorcycle business earlier this year by launching a 10-year extended warranty program. It was applicable as an additional 8 years on top of the 2 years standard warranty available on all its ‘Made-In-India’ bikes and scooters. The warranty program would cover the engine and a select few electrical parts. But on the FZ-S FI, FZ-S Fi Hybrid, and the FZ-S FI V4, it would ensure the fuel injection system too. Yamaha also rolled out its 5 millionth two-wheeler out of its Chennai plant, which is one of its major export hubs, more details here

Honda

Honda kickstarted the whole extended warranty game way back in 2023. It announced its program exclusively for its Big Wing customers. And the first 10,000 buyers, of the CB350 H’ness, and CB350 RS post the announcement, would get the extended warranty for free. Additionally, existing customers who had brought the bikes from within a flexible window ranging from 91 days to the 9th year from the date of vehicle purchase, could avail the added assurance as well.
