We expect Maruti Suzuki to launch the new Swift by the end of 2024.
Japan Mobility Show or the Tokyo Motor Show, as it is more popularly known, is underway at the Tokyo Big Sight in the capital city of Japan. Apart from several reveals, the most important one came from the Suzuki pavilion in the form of the 2024 Suzuki Swift Concept, yes the new Swift is still in its concept stages with production due for its global reveal next year. When will it come to India then? Well, there’s no confirmation yet, but we expect Maruti Suzuki to launch the new Swift by the end of 2024.
The design remains pretty much the same as the current model with very little to differentiate. However, subtle tweaks overall have helped keep the new Swift fresh and appealing. The new Swift Concept has a more modern and muscular design. The front features a new rounded grille with a honeycomb pattern, sleeker LED headlamps, and DRLs. The side profile remains largely unchanged, retaining the "floating roof" design language. The rear door handles have been relocated to the doors, unlike the current model, which has them near the C-pillars. New alloy wheels and a redesigned tailgate, bumper, and taillights with C-shaped lighting elements and black inserts complete the rear-end updates.
The new Swift Concept's cabin resembles those of other Maruti models, such as the Baleno, Fronx, and Grand Vitara, sharing the steering wheel, instrument cluster, and touchscreen. However, the dashboard has a unique layered design with a black and beige colour scheme. The feature list has not been fully revealed, but the cabin preview indicates a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, semi-digital instrument cluster, push-button start/stop, cruise control, and automatic climate control (all available on the current Swift except the larger touchscreen).
Passenger safety features include multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, hill hold assist, and ADAS features such as a driver monitoring system and high beam assist. Suzuki has not released details on the new Swift's powertrain, but it has stated that it will be fuel-efficient with a CVT gearbox. However, the India-spec version is likely to retain the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, developing 88 bhp and 113 Nm of peak torque coupled to either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT unit.
Suzuki will reveal the production-spec Swift before launch. In India, we can expect the new Swift by early 2024 at a premium over the current version, priced from Rs. 5.99 lakh to Rs. 8.89 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The new Swift will continue to rival the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios.
