Let’s hope at least this retro Kawasaki holds up better than the W175 did against its segment foes
Kawasaki has introduced a new addition to its W series of retro roadsters at the Japan Mobility Show 2023: the W230. It joins the likes of the W175 and the W800, both of which have been on sale in India but haven’t captured the audiences quite as well. Hopefully, this quarter litre W does the trick.
The Kawasaki W230 continues the W series tradition with its familiar design elements, including a round headlight, teardrop-shaped fuel tank, dual circular analog instrument displays, spoked wheels, steel fenders, and a classic-style chrome exhaust.

The W230 is expected to feature an air-cooled, four-stroke, single-cylinder engine with an estimated displacement of around 230 cc. Expect this motor to have a decent amount of power and torque to compliment the laidback nature of the bike.
This single-cylinder engine is housed inside a steel double cradle frame. The front gets conventional telescopic forks and the rear gets twin shock suspension. This bike gets disc setup at the front and the rear which is an improvement from the W175. The bike has spoke wheels and that sadly means it will get tube tyres. This does somehow keep with the classic retro charm of the vehicle
Judging by how the retro space is panning out, this Kawasaki could very well be a good entry point into this world for more riders, a much better one than the wheezy W175. If Kawasaki does decide to get it to India, it will be priced on par with the likes of the Royal Enfield Classic 350 and the Triumph Speed 400, which will make it pricey, though.
