Maruti Suzuki continues to reign supreme over Hyundai, Mahindra & Mahindra, Kia, and Toyota.
February 2025 seems to have been a good month for the Indian passenger car segment, which includes marques like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata Motors, etc. As a whole industry, this sector not only produced 4.5 per cent more passenger cars, compared to February 2024 figures – Both domestic sales and exports have also improved simultaneously with year-on-year (YoY) growth of 3.7 per cent and 4.8 per cent, respectively. Here are the top 5 manufacturers who hold the major share of the sales pie, as per the latest SIAM report:
Maruti Suzuki India Ltd maintained its position as the market leader with the highest production of 183,999 units in February 2025, a 5.4 per cent increase from the previous year. However, its domestic sales showed only marginal growth of 0.3 per cent at 160,791 units. The company's export performance declined by 13.2 per cent to 24,876 units but remained substantial in volume.
The most impressive growth came from Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, which increased its production by 17.8per cent to 51,950 units and domestic sales by 18.9per cent to 50,420 units. The company's exports also saw a remarkable 253.2per cent growth, albeit from a smaller base, reaching 1,978 units.
Hyundai Motor India Ltd experienced a slight production decrease of 1.3per cent to 66,700 units and a 4.9per cent drop in domestic sales to 47,727 units. However, its export performance improved by 6.8per cent to 11,000 units.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt Ltd showed strong market performance, particularly in domestic sales, which increased by 13.1 per cent to 26,355 units in February 2025 compared to 23,293 units in the same month last year. While production slightly decreased by 2.9 per cent to 32,734 units, the company's cumulative domestic sales for April 2024- February 2025 showed an impressive 27.3 per cent growth to 280,902 units. Toyota's exports also increased by 4.2per cent year-on-year to 2,000 units, with cumulative exports growing by 69.5per cent to 25,970 units.
Kia India's production increased by 17.2 per cent to 26,624 units, and domestic sales rose by 23.9 per cent to 25,026 units. The company also boosted its exports by 56.4 percent to 2,042 units.
