Tork

According to an online report, Tork Motors has yet to pay salaries to its employees for the past seven months.

Pune-based electric two-wheeler company, Tork Motors is running the risk of shutting down. The company has not been able to dispatch a single Kratos R since December and as a consequence, dealerships have filed a complaint with the police. Tork Motors had also circulated a notice, wherein the company had officially asked its employees for termination in July 2024. Back then it had cited that the move was a necessity to align with its strategic goals.

Besides manufacturing its Kratos motorcycles, Tork Motors is also a powertrain manufacturer for two- and three-wheelers as part of Kalyani Powertrains Limited. The latter is a wholly owned subsidiary of Bharat Forge, which also owns 64.29 per cent of Tork Motors as well. Even Bharat Forge has written off all its investment in the company, and it is now working on winding up all the pending orders of Tork Motors. The reason behind this withdrawal of investment was primarily driven by the expiry of the FAME-II subsidy, which reduced the company's profitability.

Tork

The Tork Kratos R was launched in 2022 to compete with the 125 cc commuter motorcycle segment. It debuted with a 4 kWh battery paired with a 9 kW axial flux electric motor that produces 38 Nm. The whole set-up was good for a claimed range of 180 km (IDC certified) and could reach a top speed of 105 mph.

Since Tork Motors is now on the verge of shutting down, customers of electric motorcycles have started to run into issues. Despite the three-year warranty available with the motorcycle and its parts, the lack of service in the future has become a big concern.
