Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has announced a major sales milestone, with cumulative sales of the Toyota Fortuner and its premium derivative, the Legender, surpassing 3 lakh units in India. Launched in 2009, the Fortuner has remained a key pillar in Toyota’s product portfolio, known for its rugged design, strong powertrain, and reliable performance both on and off the road. Equipped with a 2.8-litre diesel engine that produces 201 bhp and 500 Nm of torque, the Fortuner has carved a reputation as a go-anywhere SUV.

Visually, the Fortuner is positioned as a commanding presence on Indian roads. Its high ground clearance, bold styling, and upright stance give it a distinctive identity in the full-size SUV segment. Over the years, Toyota has introduced updates to the design and equipment to keep the Fortuner competitive, while retaining its core mechanical strengths.
The Legender, introduced in 2021, was developed to offer a more premium alternative within the Fortuner lineup. While sharing the same mechanical foundation, the Legender differentiates itself with dual-tone exterior styling, sequential LED indicators, and enhanced in-cabin features. These include wireless charging, ventilated seats, and an 11-speaker JBL audio system, catering to urban buyers seeking a blend of style, luxury, and practicality.

Toyota attributes the sustained success of the Fortuner and Legender to the brand’s reputation for quality, durability, and reliability—elements that have long defined Toyota’s positioning globally and in India. The models also benefit from strong resale values and low maintenance costs, factors that appeal to both private owners and fleet operators.
Varinder Wadhwa, Vice President – Sales, Service & Used Car Business at Toyota Kirloskar Motor, reaffirmed the company's commitment to its QDR (Quality, Durability, and Reliability) philosophy. “The Fortuner and Legender embody the core values that define Toyota’s engineering and manufacturing excellence,” he said.
