Toyota has produced more than 53 million units of the Corolla since it was introduced in 1966.
Toyota Motor Corporation, one of the biggest automotive manufacturers in the world, has achieved a milestone of 300 million units produced in total. The brand’s first product was the G1 truck which was manufactured by the Automotive Production Division of the Toyota Automatic Loom Works, Ltd in August 1935.
This production milestone of 300 million units includes production numbers till September 2023. Of these, Toyota manufactured 180.52 million units in Japan and 119.6 million units in factories outside Japan.
Commenting on the milestone, Toyota Chairman Akio Toyoda said, “This history did not just start when they built the first car. The founding members repeatedly tried and failed, continually building prototypes, and their efforts led to the Toyota of today”.
Koji Sato, President of Toyota, said, “I believe that this number of 300 million units could only have been achieved with the unending effort of colleagues across the company, from part and vehicle planning and design, to production, logistics, sales, and service, along with all those working to support each step”.
The Corolla has been the most produced model for Toyota, with all generations of the Corolla having a cumulative production figure of 53.399 million units till September 2023. The Corolla has been on sale globally since 1966 and was sold in India from 2003 to 2020. It was available in three generations and was sold as the Corolla and Corolla Altis.
In India, Toyota currently sells the Fortuner, Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Camry, Innova Crysta, Innova Hycross, Hilux, Vellfire, Rumion and Glanza.
